So basically you are saying that a central air unit cycling on and off at 4500 watts for 24 hours is going to use more power than two window units drawing 1000 watts cycling on and off for 8 hours or so.
It seems like if i install the unit it will be resting a lot of weight on that one small strip in front which probably isn t a great idea.
That being said if window units are not an option there are better units than others in the room air conditioner world.

I recently moved into a new place and want to install a new ac window unit but the windows are vinyl and have a weather strip that sticks up from the bottom of the frame on the inside.

Without knowing measurements my advice is one high btu window unit if the rooms connect or 2 smaller window units for each room and keep the thermostats realistic.
A small window ac unit uses about 500 watts but a central air unit uses about 4500 watts.
